… Many of his followers heard this and said, « This teaching is too hard. Who can listen to it ? »… Because of this, many of Jesus’ followers turned back and would not go with him anymore. So he asked the twelve disciples, « and you – would you also like to leave ? » Simon Peter answered him, « Lord, to whom would we go ? You have the words that give eternal life. And now we believe and know that you are the holy One who has come from God. » (John 6 : 60-68).

Should I trust less the promise of my God (…) than that of most honest man in the world ?… Wretched man, will nothing be capable of giving you confidence ? I give you my word, says the Lord ; remember that it is the word of a God, I give you my word that I will take care of you and that I will see to all your needs. Let it be enough that I am your Father and that I am aware of your needs. Ask me for anything that you want, I exclude nothing ; I am ready to grant it. It is promising a lot ; but once again, it is God who commits himself. (From confidence in God).
